July In Music

“What a wonderful summer it’s been,” said not one soul this year. As I’m here in my nearly-200-year-old Philadelphia row home, perched in front of the only air conditioner in the entire house, (downfall of living in a historic building) I’m thinking about how I truly thought to myself, “I’ll be back here in two weeks” while packing only my essentials to escape from New York and hunker down in my house here in Philadelphia while waiting to see what would happen with this whole pandemic thing. It may have been the 103 fever talking, it may have been my propensity for positivity at inopportune times, or it could have been denial. Silly, silly girl.

(Before you ask or take to Reddit, yes I quarantined for more two weeks when I arrived in Philly, after not leaving my apartment in New York for 8 days at all after coming down with symptoms. Went the long, scenic route, didn’t stop for gas or anything, did not see a single soul between both locations.)

All this to say, I don’t think anyone could have ever been prepared for what an interesting and (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime event summer 2020 would be. On one hand, the “windows down, short-shorts with butt cheeks out" anthems are going to have to be retired until at least 2021. On the other hand, my indoor self is thrilled to be able to perch in front of the A/C, make plans to escape the city permanently, and indulge in some moody, moody tunes.
