Open Letter to an Old Friend

Dear Old Friend,

You got married. I have absolutely no doubt that you looked positively stunning. I know that when you saw your groom for the first time, your eyes must have filled with tears, your heart overflowing with the purest kind of joy. Despite the hurt and anger that I'd been harboring for the past few months, I spent my Friday powering through pangs of sadness. I felt nostalgia, tenderness, and tiny moments of regret. Would you have awkwardly asked me for "wedding night" advice? How many times would I get misty-eyed? Would we exchange knowing looks at any point?

For a Summer Evening

As much as I hate using this space to talk about something as pointless as the weather, I'm just going to say it: I'm not too fond of summer. I love it in theory but I hate the oppressive heat and humidity that come along with living on the East Coast. If you've never been here, I'll put it like this: When you step outside at 11PM and you're STILL sweating, that's a problem. You shouldn't be sweating at night. Am I right? I do love the things that come along with summer though: the extra sunshine, the tan (which I obviously need to work on...), hikes with my family, cookouts, day trips to the beach, sundresses, and... rompers!

Baby Blue

Best Friends Wear Matching Shirts

Summer weekends are the best. Danielle, Brenden, and I have formed this "Three Musketeers-esque" bond and spend our days doing the yuppiest of the young urban professional activities. This weekend, we went to at least three different coffee shops and an Ikea.  As "vanilla" as those things may be on their own, I'm gonna go ahead and chalk up "going to brunch in coordinating tops" as one of the whitest things I've ever done. (Can't speak for the others.) Come to think of it now, this "J. Crew model" pose isn't helping.

Blue, Lately

Lady Date in Fairmount: What We Wore

This past weekend was a throwback to the days of yore when I would work overnight on Fridays and Saturdays. In a strange way, I missed it. Those hours create this loophole in which I can sleep in extremely late without sacrificing productivity. I get done at 8AM, sleep until 2PM, then usually wander around the city with Danielle. Our little ritual always includes coffee and this particular afternoon was no exception. Obviously we stopped along the way to take some photos.

One of my favorite things about living in Philly is the fact that there is art EVERYWHERE. Our Mural Arts Program is incredibly active in each and every neighborhood, which is something that I'm growing more and more appreciative of the longer I live in the city. In addition to providing great backdrops for outfit photos, it's nice to be surrounded by such visually stimulating and intentional pieces. At the very least, it's subliminally inspiring.

A Day at the Beach

Are you guys ready for a story? Alright. So I flew to California last week. While strolling around the airport and looking for some "Not Starbucks" coffee, a creepy man sauntered up to me and said something really gross. It was 4:30AM and I was not having any of his nonsense. I gave him a dirty look and continued my search, all the while thinking to myself, "goodness, I hope that man isn't on my flight." As I made my way back to the gate, much to my chagrin, he was waiting in line to board the same exact plane that I was. He was talking to this other strange man and making comments about the women standing in line. He said another inappropriate thing about me but then added, "but her legs are a little pale." WOW, THANKS.
